Large Dog Beds
Large dog beds are way more comfortable for large dogs and provide good support for hips and other joints! We’ve seen this with our own dogs.
If you have one or more large dogs, then you will want large dog beds. We have a Rottweiler and she used to sprawl off the edge of the bed we had for our medium-sized dog. Now she has two large beds of her own and they work much better… though as you can see here, she still spills over at times.
Finding space in an apartment or a small house for large dog beds can be a challenge. We have succeeded in doing this by utilizing corners of rooms, space under large desks, areas where the dogs lie down anyway, and the like. Sometimes I will put a large bed in a spot where it wouldn’t be convenient all the time, like in front of a bookcase or cabinet — like the photo shows — but where it is easy to move it as needed.
While our dogs don’t share their beds — our LarryDog growls at Lola if she tries to join him — in many household, two or more medium-sized dogs will love curling up together.
There are many kinds of large dog beds available. What’s the point? To make your dog more comfortable. Especially as they get older, large dogs are more prone to arthritis and other discomforts due to their size, so a bed is not just a luxury. Large dog beds even come in memory foam now. It’s super-comfortable.
Since you will be looking at the bed frequently in your living room, bedroom, den, or other location, it is nice that they now come in a wide variety of colors and fabric types. If you have a large puppy or other dog who still chews a lot, then a sturdy, tightly-woven cloth is best for the cover. Otherwise, fleece and velvet-touch materials are popular.
If you have a Black Lab, a dark color bed is preferable, and if you have a white dog, a light-color one is best. But most dog bed covers are easily removable for tossing in your washer and dryer, so however much your dog sheds, you should be able to keep the bed free of excessive dog hair pretty easily.
Large dog beds can be found for reasonable prices online. I prefer to shop online for this sort of thing because I don’t like driving around to several different stores only to discover that they don’t have the look I want, or that their prices are higher than I wanted to spend.
